December saw a lot of bad weather, I’m sure you remember! One of my couples seemed to bear the brunt of it and the reception venue actually cancelled on them as they were too remote to guarantee guest access or safety. I’d have to say though that they took it really well and their guests really adopted the blitz spirit in organising them a new reception at less than a week’s notice. One of their guests actually arrived at the church with a shovel to clear all the paths so that people could get around without getting wet or slipping! And it was still a lovely day with everyone enjoying themselves very much…
Snow Business…
January 26th, 2011Tis the Season to be Photographing…
November 17th, 2010OK, that’s not the best grammar but I was trying to do something a bit festive to sum up the Christmas rush in the portrait studio – there probably are a lot of different of ways I could have gone with the headline, OK, probably should have gone but breezing on past that…
It is, as I said, quite busy in the studio at the moment as people’s thoughts turn to Christmas presents and portrait prints of the family are a great option, especially as a change from the usual ‘socks and chocs’. Too many new families have been to see me to mention them all here but it has been a real pleasure to meet them all. Plus I have seen some of my favourite clients return to get updated photographs for the start of the festive season. After our recent studio update, we have lots more backgrounds and settings to play with and it has been great fun trying them all out…
Busy in the studio…
October 15th, 2010Well you can’t escape it, Christmas is on the way (yes, I’m sorry for mentioning it but if you’ve been anywhere near the shops recently, I’m sure you’ve noticed the creep of twinkly lights and tinsel!). So this is traditionally a busy time in the portrait studio as people hunt around for Christmas gifts for friends and family – and, like with the high street, it seems to have started earlier this year. I’ve had a busy time in the studio and we’ve even started selling Christmas gift certficates for portrait experiences – what an organised bunch you all are!
As well of some of my regular clients, I’ve had some new (and in some cases very new) faces. Baby L was just 7 weeks old and apart from the slightly perplexing mystery of how her mum is looking so good, it was lovely to meet her – she had quite a bewitching little smile, especially when she was getting cuddled. Then I had a larger, and slightly older, group in – enjoying a rare reunion as half of them live in Australia, we had great fun capturing them all together in their portrait session.
Young and Lovely!
September 30th, 2010These two gorgeous people paid a visit to our portrait studio and I thought I’d share a few images from the session. R bought the session as a present for his girlfriend for her 18th brithday and I have to say, as a gift, it certainly is more original than flowers and chocolates. I can see why he wanted her to come to the studio as she was a total natural in front of the camera and they just made a lovely couple. I too so many photos as they were great fun to play with (plus there was also the fact that they have mastered all the basic skills of sitting, walking, talking etc which most of clients are still working on!).
Brand New Family!
September 28th, 2010This week I had a chance to welcome a brand new family into the studio, with the newest member being just 2 weeks old. I thought they looked pretty gorgeous together, and I particularly loved how tiny she looked in her dad’s arms. She was the perfect little model for her first studio portrait session - sleepy for most and, when she was awake, happy to just look around and see what was going on. I look forward to meeting them again soon and watching them all grow together.
Laura & Stuart’s Wedding
September 24th, 2010Here are the latest images from my weekend wedding, for Laura & Stuart. It was a lovely day although a little emotional, with lots of people shedding a few tears (including me and you’d think I would be immune by now!). Still there were a lot of laughs and also the ever popular ride on the golf buggy at Cottesmore Golf Club (where the reception was held). Yes, I did fear for my life at points where the somewhat cavalier venue appointed driver sped over bumps and holes with what seemed to me scant regard for our safety but then you could say that I developed a keener enjoyment of life after returning unsquished so every cloud…
Another Newborn!
September 17th, 2010I was lucky enough to have another newborn in the studio this week – that’s 2 in a month, what a lucky girl I am! Obviously the first thought of every mother after giving birth isn’t ‘get me to a photographer’ but if you can possibly face it, I’d highly recommend it. Your new arrival will never be as tiny again and there is so much great stuff we can do to provide you with images that you’ll look back and smile upon for many years to come (as you wonder where all the time went to if my life is anything to go by). Baby A was just two weeks old, which is perfect as they are still so sleepy and as long as they have a fairly full tummy when they come, you can take your time and create lots of wonderful images. Below are just three of my favourites although I loved her in all of them. Plus, I think the second one just proves that babies can smile before 6 weeks – I definitely saw it and was lucky enough to catch it on camera as a permanent record as one of her first baby grins!
Jo & Jonathan – Congratulations!
September 14th, 2010Jo and Jonathan should be on their way back from this week and their photos will be waiting for them on their doormat to remind them of the big day. We had a fabulous time with the service at St Margaret’s Church in Ifield (a real hidden gem of a church I always think) and then the reception at the always lovely Alexander House Hotel in Turners Hill. I’ve worked there lots of time over the years and it never fails to delight, even in bad weather – although Jo and Jonathan had the perfect day weather wise. So congratulations to them, they were a lovely couple to spend the day with and I hope they enjoy watching their images as much I enjoyed creating them.
New visitors!
September 10th, 2010Well the schools are back but it has been a busy week in the studio with some new visitors who haven’t quite got to that age yet. One new family bought in their son who was 9 months old and I thought he was a really charmer – if you don’t count that blue football strip he was wearing (less said the better on that front I feel, I resisted the temptation to pixelate the logo so was quite proud of myself!). I’m not normally organised enough to get photographs out and published the day after a session but his dad was off to Afghanistan for 6 months next week and I wanted him to be able to see them before he went. All the best to all the family while they are apart and hopes for a speedy reunion
Baby Caitlin!
September 9th, 2010Looking back through my blog, I have found this entry made a little after I first met baby Caitlin, when she was just 8 days old – Very New Arrival. From that tiny little bundle, she has transformed into a very gorgeous young lady who took her first steps just last week. The transformation is amazing and I have really enjoyed getting to see a little piece of it. I’m very much looking forward to seeing her as she grows up, and I bet that she keeps that cheeky smile though
